Excercise 3 Part 2
INT. BRUCE HALL
Kid sitting there listening to his ipod
Kid: (Voice Over) There is not much going on in by the door of this Hall. It is a pretty well lit area, and a pretty boring place to sit at. One amusing part of sitting here is seeing people decide to buy something from one of the two vending machines, one has soft drinks and the other has snacks. Another amusement is seeing if they will take the stairs or elevator to go upstairs to a class. But seeing people exit and enter this building has to be by far the most exciting thing to watch while you sit here, that is unless you see a hot person waltz on by.
(Hot person waltzes on by, Possibly In slow motion, with music playing in the background)
But this is college, this isn’t supposed to be Disney land right?
Then Friend enters
Friend: (Eyes light up and the person is overjoyed and jokingly says) Hey Loser!!
Kid: (While smiling) Nothing
EXT OUTSIDE OF BRUCE HALL
Friends walk away and are still talking to eachother

But it can be interesting what you may see. Outside, a guy’s hat flew off of his head due to the wind, while he was talking on the phone. It’s always great to see someone chase after a hat. It was even better seeing the guy still maintain his conversation and walk into the building like nothing happened. Most people take the stairs while some people chose to wait a good minute to go on the elevator. One brave soul walks up to the vending machine, in a bright yellow shirt, and puts a couple of dollars in to get a Doctor Pepper. She then vanishes to the other side of the hallway and never returns. Outside of the door there are two people talking, one of them is smoking. The one that smokes enters the building and her eyes light up as she sees a friend. Her friend screams, “Hey loser!” and they talk for a bit before they go their different ways. Two ladies enter shortly after that and one of them has on a neck brace. They both wait for the elevator and conversate a little in Spanish.
One dude is sitting near a window having a snack, with his ear buds on watching something on his phone, with his feet kicked up. There is a girl sitting on the far end of the bench, which is across from the elevator, on a small labtop. The rush of people you see between classes usually have on a serious face, talk on their phone, listening to their ipod, but there is one girl who has her lacrosse equipment and one guy with a longboard. There is a pair of ear buds lying on a bench that one of these serious people must have left behind. As the rush of people passed there is a silence in the hallway. Only thing that can be heard is the girl typing on her labtop, chitter chatter from a nearby class, and the sound of the vending machines.

Portrait of Rembrandt's son Titus

By: Rembrandt
Excercise 2: Expressive Lighting
This is a portrait of Rembrandt’s son Titus. The light source comes from the bottom left side of the portrait. If it was be shot by a camera this would be the angle or where the camera would be placed horizontally.

Re-creation of Rembrandt's portrait of Titus
This is my replication of the portrait. The light source is supposed to come from the bottom left side of the portrait, but when I took it, it seems like the light is coming from the right side. The position the camera would be in is correct however.

Gordon Parks bio
I choose Gordon Parks after reading about all he had done and after seeing someof his work. I admired the subjects of his photos and that most of them were in black and white. I read that Parks was born in Fort Scott, Kansas on November 30, 1912. His mother passed away when he was 15 years old, and while living with some family members of his older sister in Minneapolis, he was kicked out. The highschool he attended was St. Paul, but he never fininshed. He had many different jobs during the Depression, including being a professional basketball player, being a musician, a waiter, and a busboy. In the late 1930s is when he started to take photography seriously. He purchased his first camera in 1938 at a pawnshop in Seattle and got his first big start working with Roy Stryker and the Farm Security Administration. From there he has done freelance work for Vogue, Glamour, he worked for Life Magazine, and also was a founder of Essence Magazine. He has also written poetry, memoirs, screenplays, and novels. Parks was also a filmaker and directed Shaft and Shafts Big Score.

Reaction to The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
I thought the clips form The Diving Bell and the Butterfly were pretty interesting. I liked the idea of it showing the mans Point of View, it kind of gave me the sense that I was that man. The clips of when there was a person talking to him and the background being blurry were also interesting. One thing that really intrigued me was how the director made good use of the different shots. I noticed that there was no transition between them it was just shot after shot, like when the main character had a memory then the next thing a doctor would be talking to him. The one thing that I wondered was how they created that effect of the character blinking. Overall I liked the clips and they left me with the desire to watch the rest of the film.
